They have a population of approximately 50,000 inhabitants and they live in the provinces of Chaco, Formosa, Salta and in the periphery of some urban centers. They maintain their traditional language.

Traditionally, they were fishermen and gatherers and some of the communities still maintain these activities.
In addition, they use basic agriculture methods and create crafts using traditional techniques. In some communities men specialize in pottery and wood works. Women use sheep's wool to weave tapestries and ponchos in vertical cloth using spindles, were the harmonic use of color and creative animal designs stand out.

Nowadays, all of them, in a bigger or lesser manner, work in construction, in sawmills and collecting cotton.
